Arnold Blake Green, age 77, passed away peacefully with his two sons at his side on April 17, 2016 in Wilmington, NC.
He is survived by his sons, Steven Lassiter Green, spouse Charles Hockaday, of Roanoke Rapids and Jeffrey Blake Green, wife Carol Anne, and his grandchildren, Aaron Blake Green, Benjamin Sterling Green, and Natalie Michele Green, all of Wilmington, NC; sister Bonnie Green Morrisette of Greensboro, NC; niece Margaret Keeter Warren and nephew Glenn Alan Keeter, both of Roanoke Rapids, NC.
Blake served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1963 and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years. After retirement, he and Marie could be seen every Saturday at the Farmer’s Market in Roanoke Rapids selling fresh veggies and homemade goodies.
He enjoyed playing golf, watching NC State Wolfpack games, and old westerns. He loved to listen to Elvis Presley and has requested some of Elvis’ gospel music be played at his memorial service.
His family is so proud of him for the bravery and courage he showed in his battle against cancer. The family would like to thank his many doctors and nurses who were so dedicated to his care and were so compassionate to him. After certain treatments, some of them would say “Mr. Green you really hung in there today” and that made him feel very special. We also want to thank his and Marie’s neighbors, especially Anna Wood, for all they did for them. We also thank his newly-adopted niece Carolyn Byrum. He was a good man, much loved by his family and friends; and he will be missed by all of us. May he rest in peace.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Hockaday Funeral Home, Highway 158, Roanoke Rapids, NC. Officiating will be the Reverend Roger Harding, husband of Marie’s niece Angela Jarratt Harding of West Virginia. The family will receive friends immediately afterward. Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 383 Main Avenue, 5th Floor, Norwalk, CT 06851.
